About MJA !
The Jeepster was introduced in 1948. Industrial Designer Brooks Stevens was commissioned to do the overall styling, which incorporated a sporty look. It was a 1948 two door phaeton convertible weighing 2500 pounds. It had a 4 cylinder, 63 horse-power engine. The Jeepster sold normally equiped for about $1,600. (A new grille could be purchased for $15).
Midstates Jeepster Association was organized on March 1, 1966. It all happened in Streator, IL with just four JEEPSTER owners uniting for the benefit of all JEEPSTER owners. From that small start our membership has grown into hundreds of members and from a "local" club to a "nationwide" organization with many members residing not only in the USA, but in Canada, Australia, and Belgium as well.
Our purpose is to promote the restoration and preservation of the Willys-Overland JEEPSTER as produced by that company in Toledo, OH from 1948-1951. We conduct two scheduled national meets per year, one in the spring and another in the fall. Meets are held in different locations to provide reasonable driving distances for those attending. All meets are vigorously reported in the associations monthly Newsletter for the enjoyment of all members; especially those not able to attend. Our JEEPSTER meets are non-competitive and focused on touring; so all members are encouraged to bring their JEEPSTERS whether original, fully restored, stock, or modified in some fashion. All members (even those without JEEPSTERS) are encouraged to attend and participate. These meets are an excellent opportunity to get to know your fellow JEEPSTER owners, discuss and admire JEEPSTERS and have a great time "touring" interesting locations.
To each member we offer the following: a pocket membership card, a "roster" of members, details including factory production schedules, serial numbers, original paint data, wiring diagrams, maintenance and restoration information and other useful JEEPSTER data. Further, we offer members the opportunity to advertise cars and parts (wanted or for sale) in our Newsletter without cost. All are encouraged to submit articles, pictures and tips to the Newsletter.
We encourage you to join the MJA, you will receive:
1. Information for the restoration and preservation of Jeepsters, (some of our members restore their cars to almost original and others have modified theirs with V-6 engines, power steering, A/C, 12 volt electrical systems, etc.)
2. Access to classified advertising for items for sale and things wanted, (free with your membership).
3. Notices of future meets, (one in the Spring and one in the Fall). Our Meets are held wherever the host that volunteers wants to hold it.
4. Articles sent in by our members showing "What worked for me".
5. A roster of our approx. 390 family memberships. Each membership includes the members of your immediate family to age 18.
